Altan Tour Kicks Off This Week

It is finally upon us. The Altan Spring Tour kicks off this Wednesday with a quick trip to Denmark and then the long trek to Georgia for the US leg.

The first show will be on Wednesday in Copenhagen at the Baltoppen and should be a capacity crowd as Altan are as popular in Denmark as they are all over the world.
Then after the transatlantic jetlag has barely had time to set in the band hit Covington Georgia . The main Covington show takes place on Friday February 27 th in the Olive Swann Porter Hall which is part of the high school there. However Altan will also be playing 2 short sets in the very early morning for some children, all music students ages 6 to 12 .

After the Covington show it's a short drive back to Atlanta for a gig in the Variety Playhouse a venue that plays host to the best and most varied acts in music today.

Altan are one of the most successful traditional Irish bands of all time with over 10 successful albums under their belt and they constantly tour the world bringing real Irish culture to millions. The USA is certainly a favorite place for the band and they tour here extensively and also come over for special one off shows and festivals. They have also recorded over here and collaborated with many well known artists on stage and in the studio. Dolly Parton and Alison Krauss are just two of the major music names who have appeared on Altan's albums in recent years.

This latest tour takes the band to 18 cities in 15 states in less than a month, a busy schedule by any standards. This will also be Mairead's return to the US stage for the first time since she and husband, fellow band member Dermot Byrne gave birth to a baby daughter.

For any of you new to Altan I highly recommend buying both The Blue Idol and Blackwater and then head to Ticketmaster to buy some tickets for any of the live shows before they sell out.
