Karen Ryan's London

Karen RyanJust have a peek through Time Out magazine when you are in London and see the list of great Irish, Celtic, Bluegrass and folk music listed 7 nights a week. The wonderful thing is that Time Out lists only a fraction of the great music that fills that city. I should know, I lived there for twelve years. One of the things I miss most about living in London is being able to make a couple of calls and within an hour or two have a great music session going on until the wee hours of the morning in any one of a hundred or so pubs that thrive in the bustling English capital.

Within the Irish traditional scene in London there are few more important and even fewer more talented than Karen Ryan. I have mentioned her before as a member of the London Lasses as well as a driving force in the Return to Camden Festival which takes place each October and of course JigTime will have a full preview of that in the coming months. I have already seen some of the artists booked and I am already trying to find a flight home.
This week though I am including a list of Irish session on London that Karen was kind enough to send me as she is often asked for a compressive guide. So below is a fairly good guide to the great sessions in London Town and maybe it will inspire some of you to send me lists of sessions in your town, state or country whether they be bluegrass, Celtic or just generally good jams or open mic nights. Also check out the Return to Camden Town website.
