Two Shows for the Price of One
Written by John Cutliffe
Saturday, 17 October 2009

Today I published two shows on JigTime at the same time. There is no special occasion to speak of, just me finally getting time to upload the files. So I hope you enjoy this double helping of the music you love. On these episodes we have music from David Bromberg, Joni Mitchell, Guy Clark, Karen Casey, Neil Young and so many more. So settle down for two full hours of great Americana, bluegrass, Irish and world music on episodes 54 and 55 of Across The Pond.

Click on the music player on the left to hear a very special podcast edition of Across The Pond. My good friend Gwen Orel plays some tracks from Joe Banjo Burke and some of the musicians who will be playing and teaching at the Banjo Burke Festival in the Catskills September 10-12.
Gwen writes about Celtic and roots music for Time Out New York, the Village Voice, cityscoopsny.com and of course Jigtime. Lets hope Gwen will be a regular contributer to the show and to JigTime

Across The Pond -Show 52 - On an Ark

The rains came. Not such an odd thing if you live in Donegal where the show goes out every week but in Georgia 6 days of heavy rain took its toll. At first I was enjoying the prolonged soaking. We have been in a drought situation here for a couple of years now. Even in winter it has been illegal to water your lawn. The lakes have been drying up and rivers have lost a lot of thier flow to a series of hot dry summers.  But after 6 days even I had to say it was enough. People were losing thier lives, property, livelhoods. So now people are working to rebuild and dry out ruined homes and businesses and start again. I love the rain but this time even I had seen enough.

On the show this week I have music from Mindy Smith, The Nitty Gritty Dirt band, Tom Byrne and the lovely Lumiere. Also new music from my hero Guy Clark. So do enjoy the show and let me know what you think. Send any requests to me This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

Tune in next week for more great music from both sides of the Atlantic.
