Across The Pond - 44 - Tallulah Gorge PDF Print E-mail

The City of Tallulah FallsIt was a fun week here in Georgia. Last weekend Lupa and I headed for the hills. We went for a long and tough walk into Tallulah Gorge. This is the wild and beautiful place where they shot the movie Deliverance. We rewarded ourselves after the trek with a visit to Mama G's restaurant in Clayton Georgia. It was a lovely meal and we were treated like stars by our busy but attentive waiter Challen.

So if you ever find yourself in the hills of North Georgia you could do a lot worse than visit this wonderful restaurant. Of course there are a lot more great things to see up that way including the amazing gorge itself, the falls and the lovely little town that sits on the edge of the Gorge.

On this week's show we have lots of music from Scotland including tunes from Tony McManus, Dougie Mcclean and Shooglenifty. Also there is music from Frank Tovey and Little Feat. So enjoy the show and tell all your friends.

See you next week

It has been another good week here in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. The weather broke early in the week and some dramatic storms swept through the state dropping some much needed rain on us. I especially love when the rain comes. We get so little of it here.

So maybe it was rain softening my world or maybe it was my full belly from the great famiy dinner we had at Tanner's restaurant that made me feel more laid back this week. So I think the music reflects that chilled mood too. Music today from Lone Justice, Dermot Byrne, Doc Watson, Tim O'Brien and more. I hope you enjoy the show and get in touch to let me know just what you want to hear.

Listen to this more laid back episode on http://icrfm.ie at 6pm Irish time or 1pm Irish time today.

Have a great week.

It has been a fun and sad week at the same time. Last weekend saw America celebrating the July 4th holiday. We all went to see some great fireworks on Friday night in the park at Sugar Hill. Then on Saturday we had a pretty typical 4th of July at our house with some good friends, a kiddy pool, a bbq and a few fun fireworks. I even streamed live video of our fun from Ustream.

Then on Tuesday last we all paused to watch some of the Michael Jackson Memorial. What a brilliantly produced show and what a sad day for the music world. Love him or hate him, you cannot argue with his talent or his impact on the music world.

Jordan McConnell of The DuhksOn Episode 42 of Across The Pond there is music from the brilliant Duhks, Cuban music from Eliades Ochoa, Irish music from Bela Fleck and so many more. It is a real mixture of styles and genres this week. Don't forget that I love to hear your comments, either through here or on FaceBook or Twitter . So stay in touch and lets make the show more of a community event that you get to have some real part of.

Another episode of Across The Pond airs today at 1pm GMT on my favourite little radio station in the world ICR FM . Broadcasting to the Inishowen Peninsula and parts of Northern ireland, ICR brings you news and commentary from my homeplace in Ireland. It is a great leap forward in technology when I can turn on my computer in the morning and hear local news from my home town thousands of miles away. It is even more special to be able to play music for all my old friends back home, to share some of the great music of America with my Irish friends and the great music of Ireland with my American friends.

Some great music on this week's show includes new tracks from Jim Lauderdale from his CD "Could We Get Any Closer". I also have music from Beoga, Brian Kennedy and Ryan Adams. So something for everyone in the show today I think. Don't forget you can now listen to the shows right here on JigTime shortly after they air in Ireland and you can also subscribe to the podcast on i-Tunes and have it delivered right to your i-Pod.

Also rememeber I am on both Facebook and Twitter if you want to join me there and Across The Pond even has it's own Facebook page now.

Stay safe and well everyone and for my American friends have a very Happy July 4th on Saturday.
