This week on Across The Pond I talk to my old friend Darrell Scott, one of the best singer songwriters in Nashville today. He is the man behind huge hits for major acts like Sarah Evans, Travis Tritt, The Dixie Chicks and more. His new album Modern Hymns is out now and is a collection of cover versions from some of the finest writers in American music history. I called Darrell at his house in Nashville where he was taking a well earned break from a very busy life.
All the songs on the show today are from Darrell and you can find into about all his work at his website http://darrellscott.com

Welcome to Across The Pond Episode 2. Thia week I manage to wax a little lyrical about Fall coming to Georgia and how beautiful it is here and I mention the great Eustace Conway (pictured) who lives in a TeePee in the woods of North Carolina. The book The Last American Man was written about him and is probably being turned into a film in the next few years although there is liittle info available on the status of that so far.

There is so much news from Sugar Hill Records this week that I have combined it in one post. Sugar Hill is one of the most important music labels in existences today and has one of the most eclectic rosters of artists in the music world. Doc Watson: Best of the Sugar Hill Years This is the first of two new titles in Sugar Hill's Americana Master Series which were released on July 8, 2008. Doc is one of my heroes, and it was a special privilege for me to assist with the production of this compilation!

The Americana Music Association is proud to announce that eminent Austin City Limits producer Terry Lickona will receive the Jack Emerson Lifetime Achievement Award for an Executive at the organization’s 7th Annual Honors and Awards ceremony, slated for September 18 at the historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. It is impossible to overstate the profound cultural effects of Terry Lickona's dedication, passion and vision. A native of Poughkeepsie, New York, Lickona made the move to Austin, Texas, in 1974. Originally an employee of Austin's public radio station KUT, he migrated to PBS and assumed the helm of the still nascent Austin City Limits in 1978. |
