Darol is at it again
Darol
Anger is at it again. He is one of those musicians
who just refuses to stop working. Not only that but he cant stick with
one thing either. If my mother got at him she would tell him to settle
down and decide what sort of music he wants to play. But for me as well
as his many fans all over the USA he never ceases to amaze whether it
be his work with David Grisman, Bela Fleck Mark
O' Connor or his regular
musical partner the excellent Mike Marshall.
Darol Anger¹s newest project, the Darol Anger Fiddle Ensemble ,
is releasing its first recording on Compass Records in February 2004,
entitled Republic Of Strings .
The intergenerational group (age range 50 to 16), according to Anger,
is "A musical lens refracting the current state of international
string band music, which is currently experiencing more real innovation
than any other style".
For over twenty-five years, Anger has been reinventing the American string
ensemble to incorporate his explorations into American traditional, bluegrass,
jazz and world music. As a co-founder of the Turtle Island String Quartet,
Fiddlers 4, Psychograss, Newgrange, Montreux, Band, and the David Grisman Quintet,
he has scores of important recordings to his credit.
The Fiddle Ensemble includes guitar master Scott Nygaard, cello phenomenon
Rushad Eggleston, and fiddle's newest prodigy, Brittany Haas. In Republic
Of Strings ,
Anger¹s unique vision comes into full play with densely orchestrated arrangements
of music from around the world, and new originals., with guest vocals by famed
fiddlers Laurie Lewis and Sara Watkins (Nickel Creek).
