No River City take to the highways again
No River City, as many of you know, is one of my favorite bands in this
country. They have a sound so much bigger than the two people who make
up the band and a wealth of stories to tell, mostly conjoured up by the
strange and wonderful mind of founder Drew Deman.
The band's current CD This Is
Our North Dakota is an often dark, often
humorous journey through pain and love and loss set against a backdrop
of a rural America that Norman Rockwell seems to have hidden from us
all.
On CD the songs are backed up by a full band but on
stage they remain a duo with Drew and Terri creating magic with guitars,
accordian and cello. It is a full and rich sound with just enough space
to allow Drew to draw you into the song and deliver you at the other
end bruised but not broken.
If you think you are up to having your heartstrings
tugged hard for a few hours then you are in luck as No
River City are
on the road again. With thousands of miles already behind them, there
are still quite a few cities where you can catch the band over the coming
weeks.
if you want to hear what the term Americana was invented to describe
then I urge you to check them out.
