S.H.A.R.E- Songs of Hope, Awareness and Recovery for Everybody
It's a long name for an album but don't let that put
you off doing a search for it. As the name suggests this is a collection
of songs about the perils of drink and drugs. Again though don't let
the subject matter scare you away. This is a fine collection of music
and is very important in raising awareness of just how big a problem
these addictions are. For musicians the problems can be magnified by
an expectation that drink and drugs are just a way of life in the industry.
I am living proof of that notion. You will read more about that often
crazy, frequently dangerous, funny but ultimately destructive time of
my years on the road in my Diary pages very soon. For now though this
album is a good reminder of crazier times and all the profits from it
go to alcohol and drug prevention programs.
With this cause as a motivation
some of the biggest names in Nashville got together and collected some
very inspirational songs about recovery from drugs and alcohol ever recorded.
Performers such as Travis Tritt, George Jones,
Martina McBride, John Prine and T.
Graham Brown all have wonderful songs on the album. In addition
a new song called When Love Rules the World was
written and features an all star cast including Rhett
Akins, Sherrie Austin, Hal Ketchum and
one of my favorite people in the Nashville music world Kathy
Mattea.
The people behind the album say it is all about change. Everything that
is part of the project, music, production, marketing, brainstorming and
artwork were all donated so that the money can be used for good.
